BY: BG BLADES First of all, A DISCLAIMER. THE OPINIONS AND VIEWS OF THIS ARTICLE ARE SOLE PROPERTY OF THE WRITER AND DO NOT DIRECTLY REFLECT THE COLLECTIVE OF BAD ASS PRODUCTIONS. Secondly, I apologize for being tardy to the party. I heard the news of the 2020 Inductees yesterday. When our Editor-In-Chief here at Bad Ass Productions, Mr. Evan J. Thomas, presented us the opportunity to write an opinion on this year‘s rock ‘n’ roll Hall of Fame inductees, I was chomping at the bit. I told him, “I’m in too truthful a mood.” Now, if you paid attention to who was announced as this year’s inductees, you’ll notice two names that might have you scratching your head as to what or how they contributed to the genre of Rock & Roll - the late Whitney Houston and Notorious B.I.G. With all due respect to the deceased, they deserve all the credit and recognition for their bodies of work and success. But, not here. American Music Hall Of Fame? Yes. Grammy Hall Of Fame? Absolutely. But, the ROCK & ROLL HALL OF FAME??!! C’mon, man... Even the casual music listener knows better. There’s also been a teeny, tiny bit of controversy surrounding the online fan vote this year, with such nominees as Soundgarden and Motörhead. Technically, the winner should’ve been Dave Matthews Band, who racked up enough votes for a no-brainer win (just over a million votes), with Pat Benetar coming in second with 880k-some votes. Instead, the powers that be decided to go with artists that didn’t even place in the Top 5. With the exception of The Doobie Brothers, those nods went to Nine Inch Nails, Whitney, Depeche Mode, and T. Rex. Why even have a fan vote?! It’s a slap to the face of any Rock music lover that actually CARES enough to run to some website, select or write in their favorite, and click “Submit.” I will say, however, props to Judas Priest for staying classy to the Institute, thanking them for the nomination and to the fans for voting enough times to keep them in the top five. Also, shout out to Mr. Trent Reznor for his humble acceptance into the Hall. He, too, is probably side-eyeing this year’s class thinking, “Huh?” But, whatever. Trent Reznor is going to do and think as he pleases. In closing, congratulations to this year’s Class Of 2020. If anyone hears of Slayer or Def Leppard getting inducted to the Hip Hop Hall Of Fame, please let me know. Thank you and good night!
