Best new Artist of 2016 that is how I was introduced to the Alabama band SHALLOW SIDE. The refreshing sound of rock centered guitar work, down home catchy southern drawls of feeling and rock n roll flair penetrate the band’s music along with the poetic and melodic vibes that is created through lyrical flow and vocal harmonies. This band; Eric Boatright (Vocals) Seth Trimble (Guitar/Keyboard), Heath Fields (Drums) and Matt Daniels (Bass) have a pretty special sound and character which shines brightly through the music they create. The band just recently released ORIGINS, an album containing 11 songs compiled from their previous Ep’s. Songs like REBEL, this lovely piece of sly attitude and rocking jolt of whoop ass, makes you want to fight the good fight. CAN YOU HEAR me is bouncy, is energetic, straight rock n roll with a pop rock swirl and lyrics that make you want to stand up and fight for what you love. CRAZY has the beauty and really shows off the real talent that singer Eric Boatright has inside. TRY TO FIGHT IT another solid track and my second favorite in the bands collection this far. Solid, melodic, rock sensibilities; a really a well-rounded song to show off the talent in these musicians. As the band jumped on the new bus to end out to meet up with the Resurrection Tour I was able to hit singer Eric Boatright with some questions about being a band in 2018, live shows, how they stay healthy on the road and his first vinyl he bought BEING A ROCK BAND IN 2018 HOW DO YOU FEEL SHALLOW SIDE IS REVITALIZING THE SCENE? Being youthful in an old man’s game makes movement a bit easier. But, if there is one thing that’s helped along the way is understanding the road that’s in front of us has been paved already by trailblazers before us. We’re lucky to be here and to be a part of the magic that is Rock-n-Roll! GROWING UP LISTENING TO YOUR IDOLS. WHAT DID THEY DO FOR YOU TO LOOK UP TO THEM? They put on a hell of a rock show. They created music that struck chords within us. They in fact blazed the trails we’ve taken thus far. We’ve fallen flat on our face several times and a lot of times we’ve had those very same bands pick us up dust us off and continue to inspire us. WHAT DO YOU HOPE YOU DO TO HELP PEOPLE WHO LOOK UP TO YOUR BAND TAKE AWAY FROM LISTENING OR MEETING YOU GUYS? I’d like to think that a younger version of me is standing out there. Just as lost as I was and there he/she is awaiting the inspiration I’m pouring out right there. Gathering that info and turning it into movement themselves. I needed that more than once and it took me a while to find it. Rock music never failed me in that aspect. I hope I can return that gift. ORIGINS IS OUT! A COLLECTION OF YOUR CAREER. WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO DO THIS AND HOW DO YOU FEEL HAVING AN ALBUM NOW COMING OUT ON VINYL? Origins is just a collection of our music all on one disc in an attempt to put it together before we release our first full length. It’s cool to have something printed on the same material as the greats. It’s became a hot item to have and now we have that as well. You could say we’ve made it to class with paper and pencil. We’re ready. DO YOU REMEMBER THE FIRST VINYL YOU BOUGHT? AND WHY DID YOU PURCHASE IT? The first vinyl I purchased was from The Temptations. I’m a huge fan of Motown, and that thing was kind of like a trophy for me. WHAT CAN YOU TELL ME ABOUT THE NEW ALBUM YOU GUYS ARE GOING TO BE RELEASING AND ANY SINGLES YOU HAVE IN MIND FOR THE FIRST ONE? The name for the new album is unreleased, and no singles are set into stone yet but we are continuing to work on the project. I’m deep into writing with it but I’m excited to get the stuff laid out. It’s been a tricky a tedious process this go around but the songs are better than they’ve been yet. CAN YOU HEAR ME IS STILL A FAV. OF MINE FROM YOU GUYS. HOW DID THAT SONG COME TOGETHER AND LYRICALLY WHAT DO YOU WANT PEOPLE TO TAKE FROM IT?? CAN YOU HEAR me is one of the most challenging songs to sing live, it stretches my vocal range pretty widely but I like a good challenge. The song came about like most do with a melody some lyrics and a guitar. Lyrically I wrote it for the people who seem to be difficult to reach. I was difficult to reach, ask the guys, I’m still difficult to reach. I needed a strong leader. Without trying to sound like a pompous asshole, I’m a leader. Can you hear me? Haha RESURRECTION TOUR IS COMING SOON. WHAT ARE YOU MOST EXCITED ABOUT WITH IT Our new bus is the highlight right now. It’s been a tough year for us in that department. Having this new piece of equipment is going to change the game. Also, I like to give the more seasoned guys a run for their money. A lot of great bands on the bill with us so it should be a slobber knocker! We will be playing most songs from all our previously recorded music. No fresh material until it’s released! Unless we are feeling froggy, so come to the show and watch us jump. We froggy type of people. HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE A LIVE SHOW Our live show is action packed. A full energy inspirational show. We keep our finger on the pulse and sometimes we like to let that thing loose and leave all control outside. WHAT IS YOUR GO TO STAGE CLOTHES? We wear onstage the same thing we wear offstage, also the same thing we wear to bed, geez now that I think of it it’s all we wear!?!? ALL BLACK LIKE A DRESS CODE! Haha HOW DO YOU STAY HEALTHY ON TOUR? We meal prep on tour and have black cards for planet fitness. We have a full cardio exercise every night on stage. The morning times are for lifting. Hope to see ya put on tour soon! When I think of the band POWERMAN 5000 I think of my home state of Massachusetts, electrifying energy, bouncy balls, robots, fashion, lasers and a lot of fucking fun in a rock n roll down and dirty atmosphere.
Spider One started a band just for the hell of it and made it a highly successful brand with releases like BOMBSHELL, WHEN WORLDS COLLIDE, SUPERNOVA GOES POP and so on; the list is endless!! Always staying innovative and visually intriguing the band has never been one to be the “suit n tie” type and that is what made them gain the momentum they have gotten this far. 25 plus years and Spider and the gang is still killing it! Back in 2017 they released the latest album NEW WAVE that in my opinion is my most favorite out of them all. As soon as you crack into the album with FOOTSTEPS AND VOICES it engulfs you with that feisty, energy intensity you know and love from the POWERMAN5000 camp, and to be honest that song is a fucking gem in a live setting. This time when they created the songs for NEW WAVE they made it gritty, raw and rough with the elements of rock, metal, industrial, rap and punk rock. SID VICIOUS IN A DRESS brings you back to the 80s era and is sassy and Dancy and sinister!! CULT LEADER is just a punky, raise your fist and sing along little ditty where DAVID FUCKING BOWIE is darker and artsy and bleeds with A rock n roll punch and class. The NEW WAVE tour hit the states again and this time got to land in the roots of where the band grew up and started!!! The night before I saw them they played hometown in Boston and tonight they hit Rhode Island where I was able to catch up with the one and only Spider One right after soundcheck to chat with him about how the hometown show went, any new music happenings, member changes and we run down his career through each album he has put his creative touches on. Most down to earth and very humble and amazing dude. Hope you guys enjoy our chat and if they are coming around your area definitely catch a POWERMAN 5000 show because they bring to you so much energy and fun you will forget all your worries!!!! As the crowd were still filling in, the band showed their professionalism and played their asses off as if the theatre was packed . Starting their short set with Bad Morning and ending with Smooth Criminal. Alien Ant Farm definitely had the energy to go longer but someone has to open and they were perfect for it. Lit Usually it's a kiss of death to open your set with a cover song, but Lit's rendition of Tom Petty's American Girl was killer and set the tone for the craziness the rest of their set which included Miserable, The Last Time Again and of course My Own Worst Enemy. P.O.D. The amphitheater pit almost packed, the crowd roared as Marcos Curiel's guitar riff filled the air and Here Comes The Boom set off the pit and the set was a running. When some minor drum issues held back the start of Rock The Party vocalist Sonny Sandoval explained that they didn't learn the computer and actually play their instruments, that sometimes shit happens. The fix was quick and P.O.D. Continued to rock the rest of the set with Southtown, Youth of The Nation and Alive. Buckcherry As the air thickened with humidity and smoke (seems the NY state smoking ban does not apply here) the musicians claimed the stage as only Buckcherry can and kicked us in the teeth with an amazing almost non stop rockin set. With Lit Up, Sorry, Too Drunk.... Crazy Bitch and many more . It was a terrific way to end our Generation X Stop!
