BY STEPHANIE STEVENS

MOTIVE BLACK is a female fronted band based out of Los Angeles. The band released BROKEN the platform single for a debut EP coming out later this year. This single and video totally awed me because her words in this song resonated with me fully. Vocalist, Elana Justin captured everything I have felt in the past year in this song. With this kind of real emotion I had for the song, it made me think she will probably make people feel that they arent the only ones feeling this way. The song has great melodic structure, chorus is catchy as hell. It shows the layers and levels of her voice and in the video she looks like a major kick ass chic. MOTIVE BLACK is ready to showcase great rock tunes that are inspired by lifes tragedies and the strength and fortitude to move past them. I cant wait to hear more but until then get to know Elana Justin a little more and her band MOTIVE BLACK

Q: Tell me about your band and describe your music to people who have never heard you?

A: We are a Hard Rock / Alt. Metal band based out of Los Angeles.  The music is heavy hitting, with emotive vocals.  Our single “Broken” that just came out features Ray Luzier of Korn on Drums, and Marcos Curiel of P.O.D. on Guitar.
🎼
Q: Your new single “BROKEN” is a song about you moving to the west coast and starting over - How did you adapt to Los Angeles and what is your proudest moment of this track?

A: ‘Broken” is about risking it all in order to live life to its fullest. It about throwing safe choices away and making bold decisions. Adapting to Los Angeles was slow at  first….  But eventually I found a community of musicians that made the transition much easier.  I’m proud of the track as whole, I hope people relate to it!
🎼
Q: Being a woman and having a platform like you have - what is one thing you can tell other women or people in general about confidence and empowering yourself in the world today?

A: Nobody is going to believe in you if don’t believe in yourself - that really helps me a lot. Whenever I feel my confidence waver I circle back to that, in order to get back on track.
🎼
Q: How did you become a musician and what has been your biggest accomplishment thus far?

A: Growing up my dad had a night club in Manhattan. Once a week they had a singer/songwriter night. I was really inspired by those musicians, and old movie musicals from a really young age. The EP that I will be releasing later this year is definitely my biggest accomplishment thus far. I’m very proud of all the work that’s gone into it.
🎼
Q: Any current or hopeful future plans for your band and how people can keep up to date with you?

A: We are hoping to get on the road as soon as we can. You can find links to all of our socials and upcoming tour dates at www.motiveblack.com .  You can also follow and stream us on Spotify, Apple Music, Pandora, and Youtube.
🎼
Q: What is the most important thing about music that can help people in a time of crisis, in your opinion?

A: I think music can be an escape for people in times of crises. It also unites people and makes them feel less alone in times of isolation, which we need now more than ever.
🎼
Q: If you could give people struggling with finding a passion they love to do, what advice woud you tell them?

A: Keep exploring, and trying new things.  There’s no time limit  - so don’t get discouraged – keep moving forward!
🎼
Q: Empower another artist by telling us someone you admire and why you admire them.

A: I really look up to and admire Joan Jett.   She rewrote the rules and wrote kick ass songs that have helped shape me as an artist.
