BY STEPHANIE STEVENS KING FALCON is a genre defying duo from Queens, Ny. These Alt. Rockers consist of Michael Rubin-lead guitar, vocals and James Terranova on drums and are hitting the airwaves hard with newest single SHAKE, SHAKE, SHAKE. A track that will lift your spirits and get your feet a tapping! Just think Black Keys meet Cage The Elephant with a touch of Tame Impala. But KING FALCON oozes with impeccable tones of their own, from funk styles and laid back swagger these guys are a blessing for your ears and souls. I got the chance to chat with Michael more about the band and new single. Check it out below! Q: Tell us how your band got together and what genre do you feel you fit best in? A: James and I actually started another band called 'The Inoculated Canaries”. The Canaries have been around for almost a decade now, and I think James and I wanted a new identity to make music with. We’re still making Canaries music, but now we're also making King Falcon music. And the two bands are completely different, The Canaries are really a vintage sounding rock band and King Falcon is definitely modern, Alternative rock. 🎼 Q: How did you become a musician and what is your instrument of choice? A: No joke, my mom told me if I spent as much time playing the real guitar as I did Guitar Hero I might actually be good at it. That was back in 2009 or so, and I’ve been playing guitar ever since! 🎼 Q: Your new song “SHAKE! SHAKE! SHAKE!” was written pretty much off the cuff. How was that way of songwriting? And what was your proudest moment when you heard the finished product? A: I think I can speak for both James and myself when I say that getting the mixes back for the first time is the most exciting part of the songwriting process. You're thinking “Finally after all this work I get to actually hear the song”. There is also a little bit of nerves, because this is the first time you really listen to your own music as a consumer and it’s often completely different than you thought it would be. And yeah, "Shake!" was written at the very last minute. That’s just how I like to do things. It has driven James crazy for years now and I don’t plan on stopping anytime soon. 🎼 Q: Any current or hopeful future plans for your band and how people can keep up to date with you? A: We want to just keep growing, releasing new music and getting back to playing live – once we and our fans can do so safely. You can keep up with us on our socials (see below) – we're really active on their and love connecting with fans. Our main ones are Instagram and TikTok – we actually have a "Shake! Shake! Shake!" dance challenge going on right now. 🎼 Q: What is the most important thing about music/art that can help people in your opinion? A: Especially in the time of covid-19, it's just something to take your mind off of the world for a minute. I think everybody is going through a hard time right now in their own way and anything we can do to alleviate some of that stress is helpful. 🎼 Q: What do you hope people will remember most about your music? A: As a guitarist, it would be an extreme honor to have people remember how the guitar solos go. That’s the sign of a good one. You’d be hard pressed to find someone who can’t sing every note Brian May plays in Bohemian Rhapsody. 🎼 Q: If you could give people struggling with finding a passion – something they love to do…. What advice would you tell them? A: Your passion doesn’t have to be creative necessarily - it can be absolutely anything. I think it’s helpful to take a step back and look at the things in your life that bring you joy and focus on those things. For me, I’m very passionate about music and I’ve always been very passionate about cars. I try to do at least one thing every day to satisfy each of those interests. We’ve all got a very limited time on this planet and we should use that time to do stuff we enjoy! 🎼 Q: Empower another artist by telling us someone u admire and why you admire them. A: I’ve got a lot of artists I admire. One is Tyler the Creator. I think no artist today is involved in as much stuff as he is. The brand that he has created for himself is both unique and consistent and that's not an easy thing to accomplish. I’m also a huge Tame Impala fan. I think Kevin Parker is a borderline genius.
