I've had the opportunity since shows started coming back in recent months to cover some very enigmatic front men with the likes of South Of Eden's Ehab Omran, Joyous Wolf's Nick Reese, Gemini Syndrome's Aaron Nordstrom and recently Crobot's Brandon Yeagley blew away the masses at Back Bar in Janesville, WI. It was my first time making the trek to Back Bar to cover Crobot and all I have to say is WOW to the experience I had. Yeagley and guitarist Chris Bishop started the band and later brought in Dan Ryan on drums. The quartet (they have a few touring bassists) hail from Pottsville, Pennsylvania and in recent months released their EP Rat Child. This new album from top to bottom is solid and has moved the band up the ranks as a band you can't miss when they are on tour. Back bar is a quaint joint placed in the middle of somewhere-ville Wisconsin just miles over the Illinois and Wisconsin border. The sound at Back Bar is top notch and as you can tell by the photos the lighting enhanced the ambiance of the evening. Then came Crobot... I first saw them in 2017 at Chicago Open Air, I didn't really know of their music then but I do recall a bit of their set. This night though was a whole different experience as they were headlining a small venue and not on an early afternoon slot at an outdoor festival. Crobot starts off their show with a large egg donning the stage as lead singer Yeagley emerges from the egg like he's being born on stage. From there I was mesmerized by his stage presence and his interactions with the crowd. They popped off songs like "Burn", "Mountain", "Gasoine" and my favorite being "Low Life". The hour plus show was lively, highly entertaining and Crobot just rocked the place till the very end. Crobot is a band that should be a household name and if not now VERY soon! They have it all in terms of what you want from a band, great music and vocals, incredible live show and personality! With the pandemic ending and people finally able to attend shows the crowds at the first bunch of shows I have seen have been more boisterous i'm figuring due to the lack of live music and the bands are just blowing us out of the water with their shows. I love the energy of these bands and I'm figuring it will only get better.
