![]() Classic metal rock days are back with a modern rev as Texas rockers, Roaring Truth, deliver on their self-titled EP. The band is passionately driven to bring their fans what they want- Texas size sound is pounding loud and proud for Roaring Truth. Ron Lester: Roaring Truth- there is something to be said in a name. It is quite often the first thing we identify with someone or something. Has the name worked for you as you felt it would for the band? Marty Hill: I think that it is a very distinctive name and relates what we’re about. The name is made up of two parts between myself and James Jones, our singer. I originally wanted to name the band “Hard Truth”, however, he asked me if I’ve ever heard a lion roar- he stated that the power of it is incredible. So, we used his “Roaring” and my “Truth” and put them together for “Roaring Truth”. Ron Lester: Your sound reaches back into the earlier days of metal/hard rock. Who did you all grow up listening to and how has that sound resonated with you on your band journey? Marty Hill: My favorite bands are as follows- 70’s Aerosmith, Van Halen (DLR), Def Leppard (pre-Hysteria), Kiss, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Metallica, Tesla etc…All of these bands, whether metal or hard rock, always wrote melodic “sing-along” songs. That’s what gets me going! When you combine melody with powerful music, it’s anthemic-. that’s what we’re trying to do. Ron Lester: Talk about your self-titled EP and its development. Is there anything now looking back that you would change? Marty Hill: When you listen to a finished product over and over, you tend to think about different ways of doing things, however, I am very satisfied with the EP. Every song that we have sent to Dallas radio has been played, so we’re confident in what we have produced. Ron Lester: How has the daily workload and being a band load worked for you all? Are family and friends supportive of the division of time? Marty Hill: Our music is a labor of love and our families and friends realize that. We all have full-time jobs and families that still garner the majority of our time, however, we a disciplined in setting appropriate time aside for band rehearsal, writing etc… Ron Lester: One of you at least is a Pastor correct? What has been the reaction from others in the religious body to what you do as musicians? Have you found it to be helpful at times in relating to others? Marty Hill: Yes, I am a pastor. I do get funny looks when people know I’m in a heavy metal band, because folks who are uneducated about the scene relate it all to the cliché of “sex, drugs, and rock-n-roll”, and, of course, Satan worship. Roaring Truth is not here to beat people over the head with the Bible, we simply want to provide an alternative, from what is often negative in vibe and presentation. Our second single “Rebel?” speaks to this topic. Our music is definitely a bridge to a relationship to others- it is a universal language of the heart and soul. Ron Lester: What is next now after the release of your single "Homesick" off the album? Marty Hill: We will be promoting our follow-up single- “Rebel?”. We will continue to promote the EP and be playing dates in the southern states, specifically Texas and Arkansas for the immediate future. Keep up with Roaring Truth on Facebook and Twitter for up to date information.
